Freddie joined Schools Week’s sister title FE Week in early 2014. Shortly after Schools Week’s launch later that year, he began writing for both papers, joining the Schools Week team full-time from 2015 as its political reporter.

He became the paper’s chief reporter in 2017 and its deputy editor in 2022, while continuing to cover politics, policy, industrial relations and children’s rights issues.

He became editor of Schools Week in January 2026.

Freddie began his career at 18 as a trainee and then senior reporter at the Gloucester Citizen newspaper, training on the job and at Wolverhampton City College. He then worked as the Oxford Mail’s political and local government reporter.
