The revised Ofsted inspection framework is now one year old, but for many providers, what this means in practice is still unclear.
Drawing on FIN’s detailed inspection analysis from our work with over 600 providers, this webinar goes beyond headline changes to explore how inspections are actually being experienced, what inspectors are focusing on, and where provider expectations are not fully aligning with reality.
What to expect
FIN will share insights from their well-established and increasingly unique source of inspection intelligence to this webinar. Following detailed analysis of inspections, provider data and learning from FIN’s work with hundreds of providers, we will look beyond individual inspection outcomes to identify trends, patterns and recurring themes emerging as the revised framework rolls out across different types of provision.
An opportunity to explore what is actually happening in the field, and what providers can learn from it.
We will examine:
- What inspections are telling us: emerging patterns in inspection practice, recurring strengths and weaknesses, common misconceptions and areas where provider expectations do not always match what inspectors are looking for.
- What the evidence is beginning to reveal: how analysing inspections across different provider types, contexts and settings can identify trends that may not be visible from an individual inspection. FIN will share practical guidance on what providers should be alert to as the framework continues to roll out.
- A spotlight on how providers can better use their own data: Ofsted has consistently emphasised the importance of context. But are providers making full use of the opportunity this creates? We will explore how leaders can move beyond simply presenting data and instead peel back learner participation, achievement and progress data to understand what it is actually telling them about the quality of their provision.
- From data to prediction, prediction to action: good data analysis should do more than describe what has already happened. We will consider how identifying patterns can help providers anticipate where learners may be at risk, investigate why, and take action before an issue becomes an inspection finding.
- Spotting patterns that matter: breaks in learning, withdrawals, achievement gaps, attendance, destinations and learner progress can reveal patterns that are unique to a provider’s location, learner population, curriculum, employer base or industry. The question is not simply “What does our data say?” but “What is it telling us, and what are we doing about it?”
- Tracking change over time: a single data point rarely tells the whole story. We will explore the importance of tracking trends over time, testing whether interventions are working and building a robust culture of continuous improvement rather than preparing evidence simply because an inspection is approaching.
- Learning from providers: first-hand experience of the inspection process will be shared. As a Bud customer, they will communicate how they have used their own intelligence and improvement practice to fully understand their provision, respond to challenge and achieve a Strong Standard.
- Separating myth from reality: challenging some of the fears and assumptions that have developed around the revised framework and consider what the emerging evidence tells us about consistency, transparency and proportionality in practice.
Throughout the session, Kerry Boffey, CEO, Fellowship of Inspection Nominees (FIN) will translate the framework’s analysis into practical guidance about what providers can do now — helping leaders move from “What might Ofsted ask us?” to the much more powerful question: “What does our own evidence tell us about the experience and outcomes of our learners, and what are we doing about it?”
This webinar is supported by Rhian Old, Chief Commercial Officer from the team at Bud; and to share practice through provider experience, we are welcomed by ANS Group‘s Operations Manager, Megan Bradshaw. Megan was heavily involved in the group’s recent Ofsted inspection and will share their experience of being one of the first training providers who underwent inspection under the revised framework, talking through their visit, what they have learnt, and examples of how things are being done differently 12 months on.
Who should attend?
The event will offer support and guidance to all those involved in quality assurance and quality improvement within colleges, ITPs, sixth form provision, HE Providers, local authorities and employer provision including:
- Senior leaders
- Quality nominees
- Curriculum managers
- Quality leads
This is not a theoretical overview of the framework; it is a practical, provider-focused session designed to help you understand how your current approach is likely to stand up to inspection, where you may be vulnerable, and the steps you can take to strengthen confidence and readiness over the next 12 months.
