About

Join leading digital education expert Darren Coxon for this exclusive, one-day training session at York College.

The Cybernetic Classmate and Me provides a comprehensive guide to integrating AI into your teaching and leadership practice, maximising its benefits while protecting students and data.

This is a practical, hands-on session exploring how AI can become a genuine teaching and learning partner.

Throughout the day, you’ll explore how AI is already transforming education enhancing efficiency, improving learning outcomes, and supporting teacher wellbeing. Discover how easy-to-use tools can streamline lesson planning, automate administrative tasks, and provide real-time feedback to help you better understand and support learners.

We start with the one skill that underpins everything, treating the prompt as a specification, not a question and the one safety rule that never changes: confidentiality decides the tool.

Importantly, this training will guide you through best practice for deploying AI safely and ethically. You’ll come away with a clear framework for responsible use, including advice on GDPR compliance, student data protection, and how to maintain human-centred teaching values in a tech-enabled world

From there, participants work through immediately usable classroom workflows: building a grounded knowledge base in NotebookLM and turning it into podcasts, video explainers, mind maps, flashcards and quizzes; generating differentiated resources, social stories and readable adaptations; using voice and role play modes for retrieval practice; and quick wins for planning, assessment and reporting. Every workflow is demonstrated live and mapped against data-protection expectations, so participants leave knowing not just what works, but what’s safe to use with which age group.

All prompts are provided as a copy-paste take-home resource.exploring the safe and secure use of artificial intelligence in schools and colleges.
