Embedding Formative Action into Curriculum Design

With René Kneyber and Valentina Devid

We are excited to host René Kneyber and Valentina Devid from Dutch educational research organisation Toetsrevolutie who provide unique, high-quality, research-based training in the field of formative action and testing.

June 2 @ 3:45 pm - 4:45 pm BST

This interactive webinar is aimed at teachers and combines both practical and theoretical elements of formative action and will focus on how to meaningfully embed formative action into curriculum design. Rather than treating it as a stand-alone technique, René and Valentina will demonstrate how formative action gains real impact when it is thoughtfully and coherently integrated into the learning journey. This perspective helps ensure that formative action supports long-term learning goals and becomes a natural part of everyday action.

The content of the webinar will engage participants through short, hands-on activities interwoven with clear explanations of the underlying theory. The balance between theory and active participation makes it easier for teachers to translate insights into their own action.

The session aims to foster a shared understanding of formative action and offers concrete tools to support its further implementation within the curriculum.

René and Valentina will provide a unique approach to applying the principles of formative action directly within the session itself. This gives teachers the opportunity to experience the approach from a student’s perspective. Throughout the webinar, common questions and concerns will be addressed, such as:

  • What are the benefits of formative action?
  • Doesn’t it take too much time with all the marking and admin?
  • Do students actually take it seriously?
  • What if nothing is done with my feedback?

Formative action is more than just a technique.
